Regenerating the Youyi Bay Micro‑Community in Aranya

The project is set in Qinhuangdao’s Aranya district and reimagines a small community that includes a hotel, residential units and commercial premises.

In the original layout, the hotel and apartments each enclosed their own courtyards, while the buildings formed plazas of varying size and atmosphere. Moving through these plazas, people experienced a gradual shift from lively to quiet, and from public to private.

The regeneration work focused on enhancing everyday use. By reconfiguring the courtyards and plazas, the designers made it easier for users to transition smoothly between shared and intimate spaces, creating a subtle flow from bustling to serene environments.

For designers, this case shows how spatial hierarchy and user flow can be orchestrated through simple elements like courtyards and plazas. It offers a practical example of storytelling through space that can inform future UI/UX, architectural and animation projects.

Looking ahead, Genarchitects may apply similar principles in other urban settings. Watching their next projects could reveal new ideas for integrating public and private realms in creative design work.
