Harvard University showcases waste‑wool cladding tiles at Oslo Architecture Triennale
Harvard’s Grinham Research Group unveiled a new insulating cladding tile made from recycled wool at this year’s Oslo Architecture Triennale. The tiles were displayed on a timber frame in Oslo’s Sofienberg Church as part of the main exhibition.
Harvard’s Grinham Research Group developed an insulating cladding tile from waste wool and presented it at the Oslo Architecture Triennale.
The recycled wool, normally discarded as industrial waste, was used as the primary material for the tiles, demonstrating how surplus fibers can be transformed into valuable building components.
For designers and artists, this innovation offers a sustainable material that combines natural aesthetics with effective thermal performance, making it suitable for retrofitting older buildings.
Future steps likely include further testing of the tiles’ durability and thermal efficiency, as well as exploring industrial partnerships to scale production and bring the product to international markets.
