Casio Unveils New G‑Steel Watches with Solar Charging in the U.S.
Casio has launched its new analog G‑Steel GST‑B1000 watches, featuring a slimmer design, 58‑gram weight, and solar charging. Two models, GST‑B1000‑1A and GST‑B1000‑2A, are now available through the brand’s official website in the United States.
The new watches measure 11.6 mm thick and weigh 58 g, thanks to an internal module redesign and bonded glass. The case is made of stainless steel with a Carbon Core Guard structure, and the strap is plastic.
The two models differ in dial color: GST‑B1000‑1A has a classic black face, while GST‑B1000‑2A features a blue dial that shifts hue under different lighting. The analog display includes three main hands, two small dials for 24‑hour time and weekdays, and a date window. Hands are coated with Neobrite and illuminated by a Super Illuminator LED for better visibility in low light.
Solar charging via the Tough Solar system can last up to five months in normal use, or 18 months with power‑saving mode. This is attractive to designers because it removes the need for cables or frequent recharging.
Bluetooth connectivity allows automatic time sync, alarm setup, and phone‑finding through a dedicated app. The watch also offers 200‑meter water resistance, mineral glass, and a screw‑on crown.
The price is $385. For designers, key takeaways are the light weight, slim profile, durable materials, and solar charging capability. Future developments to watch include improvements in solar efficiency, battery longevity, and deeper app integration.
