Free Blender Tool Simplifies Hair Rigging
A new Blender add‑on automates bone chains for stylized hair, easing the rigging process.
A free add‑on for Blender has been released to streamline the rigging of stylized hair. It automatically creates bone chains from a hair tip and lets users choose whether the bones follow the strand or form a straight line.
Users can manually mark the hair tip and root, then adjust settings such as bone count, coverage, root depth, and direction. The generator works with open, closed, or tubular hair cards and can handle multiple selected strands.
By eliminating the need to place bones manually, the tool saves time and effort, giving designers and animators tighter control over hair movement and quick parameter tweaks.
It requires Blender 4.5 LTS or newer, runs entirely inside Blender, and has no external dependencies or internet requirement. The add‑on is available through the Blender Extensions platform.
Other related tools include Draw‑Hair for drawing hair curves, ShellFit for fixing body‑clothing clipping, and Proximity Snap for modeling tasks, offering a suite of options for creative workflows.
